Program Initiatives

  • Extremism / Hate Crimes
    Open Society Foundation included a very actual theme of hate crime/right wing extremism as a part of its law program. Main goal of this initiative is a support of tolerance in society and contribution to fight against hate phenomenon, which prevailed in Slovak society within few years rapidly.


  • The Decade of Roma Inclusion
    The Decade of Roma Inclusion 2005-2015, an initiative supported by the Open Society Institute and the World Bank, is an unprecedented international effort to combat discrimination and ensure that Roma have equal access to education, housing, employment and health care.


  • East East Program: Partnership Beyond Borders
    The East East Program: Partnership Beyond Borders supports international exchanges that bring together civil society activists to share ideas, information, knowledge, experience and expertise and supports practical action resulting from that networking.


  • English Essay Competition
    English Essay Competition is a popular contest for secondary school students. It is the oldest such competition which was initiated and has been run by a non-governmental organization.


  • Harm Reduction
    A realistic approach in drug prevention known as “Harm Reduction” disseminates the idea that a drug free society is an unfeasible goal. Harm reduction programs attempt to diminish individual and social harms associated with drug use, especially the risk of HIV infection.


  • Harm reduction - service providers
    Harm reduction service providers are considered an inherent part of the public health system that contributes to the quality of life for a given city, town or community’s citizens. The goal of this initiative is to offer a safe environment for constructive discussion between citizens, local municipality representatives and the third sector representatives to include such services in the given community’s financial system to ensure its systematic support from local municipality resources.


  • INFOcin of the Year Contest
    INFOcin is a project that annually provides a platform to monitor positive and negative examples of the implementation of Law 211/Coll. on Free Access to Information. It monitors adherence to one of the basic norms of a democratic society.


  • Journalism Award
    The Journalism Award is a competition for journalists from all forms of media: print, electronic, nation wide, local and regional. It aims to support the development of high-quality Slovak journalism and create an opportunity for mutual confrontation and discussion.


  • Open Medical Club
    A civic association that has organized the Salzburg Medical Seminars International since 2004.
